Off-Grid Setup Consulting
Electricity, water, connectivity — even where infrastructure doesn't reach,
you can build a livable environment on your own.
Based on setups we completed in three days, we help you build yours.
Energy Independence
Achieve stable power supply through a combination of solar panels, batteries, and generators.
Water Supply
Build water infrastructure independent of municipal supply using rainwater harvesting and solar water heaters.
Connectivity
Set up communication infrastructure that supports remote work — from satellite internet to local networks and guest WiFi.
Founder Takuya Sato built a mini off-grid environment for a Silkie chicken coop at his home in Timeless Town, Urayasu, Chiba. He repeatedly tested solar-panel-and-battery-powered energy independence in his daily life. The coop also serves as a test site for outdoor weathering validation of TokiStorage's fused quartz engraved artifacts.
During gravestone field surveys for SoulCarrier (Resonance Society), Sato traveled extensively by car, self-generating electricity with portable power stations and solar panels during extended fieldwork. This built practical knowledge of maintaining off-grid environments while on the move.
In 2025, while staying across Maui from the eastern to western tip, he brought his own equipment and built off-grid environments at two locations — each completed within three days. He also assisted local Workaway hosts with their setups, validating that the systems function at a practical level.
Plans are underway to establish a base on Sado Island for a full-scale off-grid living foundation. The progression from experiment to car camping to field validation to full deployment — that accumulated experience is the foundation of this consulting service.
Scope of Services
- Power Generation — Solar panels, portable power stations, battery systems, generators
- Hot Water — Solar water heaters, efficient hot water system design
- Water — Rainwater collection, filtration, and storage systems
- Communications — Satellite internet (Starlink, etc.), local network setup, guest WiFi
- Integrated Design — Holistic infrastructure planning combining all of the above
Common Concerns
"Don't I need an electrician's license?"
The scope requiring professional certification is limited. Portable power stations, solar panels, and satellite internet can all be set up without one — and that alone creates a fully functional environment. When licensed work is needed, we can connect you with the right professionals.
"Isn't the upfront cost too high?"
You can start small. Begin with a single solar panel and a portable power station, then expand as needed. By investing incrementally, you can grow your setup while keeping risk low.
"What if something breaks and I can't fix it?"
That's exactly why we insist on simplicity. Fewer parts, off-the-shelf components, designs you can maintain yourself. The reason we could build complete setups on Maui within three days is because we don't over-complicate things.
"Isn't this just a hobby — not really practical?"
On Maui, we actually lived in these setups and worked remotely. The Silkie chicken coop runs on automated solar power management. Our benchmark is whether you can live comfortably day to day.
Four Phases
Assessment — Site Survey & Consultation
Two free sessions. We review your site's location, climate, existing infrastructure, and goals. Together, we determine what's needed and what's not.
Design — System Planning (2 months)
We design the optimal combination of power, water, and communications. From equipment selection to layout planning and budgeting — keeping things simple, scalable, and free of over-investment.
Build — Construction Support (2 months)
Procurement assistance, installation guidance, and initial setup. The goal is for you to understand and be able to build it yourself.
Optimize — Fine-Tuning & Independence (2 months)
Adjustments based on real operating data. Balancing generation and consumption, adapting to seasonal changes, troubleshooting. We walk alongside you until you can maintain the system on your own.

Why We Do This
TokiStorage's mission is "proof of existence" — delivering records a thousand years into the future. But if the places where those records are kept aren't themselves sustainable, it means nothing. Building sites that don't depend on external infrastructure is the foundation for connecting existence to the future.
Integration with Workaway Support
When starting as a Workaway host in a rural area, one of the biggest hurdles is infrastructure. Without connectivity, you can't communicate with guests. Without stable power, you can't offer a comfortable stay. Off-grid setup consulting is also a service that establishes the prerequisites for hosting through Workaway.
Putting It into Practice on Sado Island
We are establishing a base on Sado Island to build a full-scale off-grid living foundation. From experiments in Timeless Town, to field validation on Maui, and now the "real thing" on Sado — every step of that process feeds directly into the knowledge behind this consulting service.
