1. What We Use
Two types of affiliate links exist on TokiStorage’s site.
Amazon Associates. On pages such as the DIY setup guide, equipment guide, and soap-making guide, recommended equipment and supplies are linked with an Associates tag (tokistorage-22). When users purchase from Amazon through these links, TokiStorage receives a percentage of the sale as a referral reward.
Wise Referral Program. When introducing Wise as a payment method, referral links are used. When a new user creates a Wise account through this link and completes a qualifying transfer, both TokiStorage and the user receive a benefit.
In either case, no additional cost is incurred by the user. Prices and sign-up terms are identical whether or not the referral link is used.
2. Why We Use Them
The reason is straightforward. If we are already linking to products and services we recommend, routing those links through referral programs recovers a portion of operating costs. Since users bear no additional burden, there is no reason not to.
TokiStorage has no server and runs on GitHub Pages. Direct infrastructure costs are near zero. However, non-zero fixed costs exist—domains, development tools, testing equipment, legal compliance. Affiliate income helps offset these operating costs.
What matters is that the presence of affiliate links does not distort our recommendations. Products and services introduced by TokiStorage are limited to those actually used and deemed essential to the product. Recommendations are never altered based on whether a referral reward exists.
3. Why We Don’t Hide It
Many sites hide their affiliate links. Users purchase without knowing the link they clicked was an affiliate link. Technically legal, but lacking in transparency.
TokiStorage’s design philosophy is consistent in “not hiding.” Code is published as open source. Feedback is left publicly, linked to Wisetags. Design decisions are articulated in essays. Affiliate links are no different. We disclose the fact of their use and the intent behind them.
If there is no reason to hide it, disclose it. That is the default.
4. Specific Disclosures
The following programs are used.
- Amazon Associates Program (tag: tokistorage-22)—featured on DIY setup guides, equipment guides, soap-making guides, and related pages
- Wise Referral Program—featured on payment method pages, the monitor program page, partner guides, and related pages
The same disclosure is also included on the Specified Commercial Transactions Act page.
We use referral links. No additional cost to users.
There is no reason to hide it, so we disclose it.
